A Jamaican Slave Revolt (like you’ve never seen it before)
Professor Vincent Brown at Harvard University has created an amazing website that tells the story of the a mid-eighteenth century slave revolt in Jamaica that involved at least 1500 enslaved men and women.
The highlight of this project is the interactive, computer animated map that Brown uses to illustrate how the rebellion unravelled in space and time. The map shows rebel slaves moved from plantation to town, and where they clashed with colonial militias, as well as conveying how rumours of a slave uprising spread through this Caribbean island.
