We thought we would share this 1978 advertisement created by the International Ladies Garment Workers Union for US consumers. It came to our attention via facebook.
The jingle must have been popular because it inspired a second ad in 1981;
According to ILGWU’s Wikipedia entry, both advertisements were based on the winner of a jingle contest among Union members .
If you want to sing along, the lyrics are as follows:
Look for the union label
When you are buying a coat, dress, or blouse,
Remember somewhere our union’s sewing,
Our wages going to feed the kids and run the house,
We work hard, but who’s complaining?
Thanks to the ILG, we’re paying our way
So always look for the union label,
It says we’re able to make it in the USA!
